More Than a Basic OBD2 Code Reader

A basic OBD2 reader normally concentrates on engine and emissions-related faults. The CR Pro+ is designed to go considerably further by communicating with manufacturer-specific systems throughout supported vehicles.

Depending on the vehicle, this can include systems such as the engine, automatic transmission, ABS, airbag/SRS, electronic parking brake, steering, body control modules, instrument cluster, climate control, battery management, TPMS and other electronic control units.

Within supported systems, the CR Pro+ can provide functions such as reading and clearing diagnostic trouble codes, viewing ECU information, displaying live sensor data and reading freeze-frame information.

System coverage varies from vehicle to vehicle. A supported vehicle may not provide access to every control module or every diagnostic function available on another model.

Bi-Directional Active Testing

One of the main advantages of the CR Pro+ over simpler diagnostic tools is its support for bi-directional or active testing.

Rather than simply reading information from the vehicle, active testing allows the scanner to send commands to supported control modules and components. This can help a technician determine whether a component is responding correctly and can make fault-finding quicker and more accurate.

Depending on the vehicle, available active tests may include operations such as activating an ABS pump, operating window regulators, commanding the fuel pump, operating the electronic throttle and carrying out other actuator or output tests.

Active tests are vehicle-specific. Not every active test is available on every vehicle, model, year or control module.

Up to 48 Service and Maintenance Functions

The CR Pro+ platform supports up to 48 service, reset and relearn functions.

These can include commonly required workshop procedures such as oil service reset, steering-angle sensor reset, electronic parking-brake reset, electronic throttle adaptation, DPF regeneration, injector coding, ABS bleeding, battery-management reset and TPMS reset.

The scanner also supports a wider range of advanced service procedures where the individual vehicle and ECU allow them.

Important Compatibility Information

The CR Pro+ does not provide all 48 service functions on every vehicle.

Available diagnostic functions, service procedures and bi-directional tests depend on the exact vehicle manufacturer, model, production year, engine, transmission, ECU specification, factory equipment and software configuration.

Some supported vehicles may provide a large number of service functions and active tests, while other supported vehicles may provide considerably fewer.

For example, the fact that the CR Pro+ supports DPF regeneration, injector coding, ABS bleeding or battery-management reset as a platform feature does not mean that each of those functions will be available on every vehicle.

If you are purchasing the scanner primarily for one particular specialist function, you should check the latest vehicle and function coverage published by iCarsoft before purchase.

Vehicle and function coverage can also change as iCarsoft releases software updates.

Broad Multi-Brand Vehicle Coverage

The CR Pro+ is designed for users who work on a range of different vehicles rather than a single manufacturer.

iCarsoft currently states coverage for more than 58 vehicle makes worldwide, covering European, Asian and American manufacturers.

This makes the CR Pro+ particularly useful for independent garages, mobile technicians and households with several different vehicles.

Vehicle-make coverage should not be interpreted as identical functionality across every model made by that manufacturer. The available systems, active tests and service functions will vary between applications.

AutoVIN Vehicle Identification

On compatible vehicles, the CR Pro+ supports AutoVIN identification.

When available, AutoVIN allows the scanner to identify vehicle information automatically after connection, reducing the need to select the vehicle manually.

Where AutoVIN is not available or cannot identify a particular vehicle, manual vehicle selection may still be used.

AutoVIN support itself varies by vehicle.

CAN-FD Support

The CR Pro+ supports CAN-FD, the higher-speed vehicle communication protocol now used on an increasing number of modern vehicles, alongside conventional CAN and other supported diagnostic protocols.

This helps extend the tool's usefulness to newer vehicle platforms.

CAN-FD support does not in itself guarantee full diagnostic coverage of every vehicle using CAN-FD; actual system and function coverage remains vehicle-dependent.

Standard OBD2 / EOBD Diagnostics

In addition to manufacturer-specific diagnostics, the CR Pro+ supports the standard OBD2 test modes available on compatible OBD2/EOBD vehicles.

These cover functions such as reading and clearing emissions-related trouble codes, viewing live data, freeze-frame information, I/M readiness status, oxygen-sensor monitoring, onboard monitor tests, vehicle information, EVAP-related tests and pending trouble codes.

Standard OBD2 coverage mainly relates to emissions and powertrain diagnostics. The CR Pro+'s manufacturer-specific full-system functions are separate and depend on the individual vehicle.

Clear 4.3-Inch Colour Display

The CR Pro+ uses a 4.3-inch TFT colour display with 800 × 480 resolution, providing a clear interface for diagnostic menus, live information and fault-code data.

Physical navigation buttons make the tool straightforward to use in a workshop environment and avoid reliance on a touchscreen.

The unit has a rugged handheld design intended for regular diagnostic use.

Vehicle-Powered Design

During normal diagnostic operation the CR Pro+ is powered from the vehicle's diagnostic connection.

Its specified operating voltage is 9–18V, with typical power consumption of approximately 2.4W.

Unlike tablet-style diagnostic tools, the CR Pro+ does not rely on a large internal rechargeable battery for normal operation.

Free Lifetime Software Updates

The CR Pro+ includes free lifetime software updates for the standard diagnostic software.

There is no annual subscription fee required to keep the standard software updated.

Updates are carried out through a compatible Windows PC using the supplied update method and TF card reader, so Wi-Fi is not required on the scanner itself.

Software updates may add or improve vehicle coverage, protocols and functions over time. The inclusion of lifetime updates does not guarantee that every future vehicle or future diagnostic function will subsequently be supported.

Diagnostic History and Reports

The CR Pro+ can store diagnostic information for later review.

Supported diagnostic reports can be saved and, using a compatible Windows PC, shared or printed for record keeping.

This can be useful in a workshop environment where diagnostic results need to be retained or supplied as part of a vehicle inspection or repair record.

Compatibility — Please Read Before Ordering

The CR Pro+ supports a wide range of vehicles, but functionality varies significantly between individual makes, models and years.

A vehicle being listed as supported does not mean that every one of the scanner's diagnostic, service or active-test functions will be available on that vehicle.

Some vehicles may support most of the CR Pro+'s capabilities, while others may offer a smaller selection of systems, service procedures or active tests.

Customers who require a particular specialist function should check the latest iCarsoft coverage information for their exact vehicle before ordering.

Do not assume that a function is supported simply because that function appears in the CR Pro+ general feature list.

Safe Use

The CR Pro+ is a diagnostic and service tool and should be used in accordance with the supplied instructions and appropriate workshop procedures.

Bi-directional tests and service functions can command or alter vehicle systems. They should only be carried out when the user understands the procedure being performed and the vehicle is in a safe condition for that test.

Before carrying out an active test or service procedure, ensure the vehicle is safely positioned, the parking brake is applied where appropriate, moving components are clear of people and equipment, and any manufacturer-specific safety procedure is followed.

Do not carry out coding, adaptation, reset or service procedures without understanding the consequences of the operation.

Diagnostic trouble codes and scan-tool results should be treated as diagnostic information rather than automatic confirmation that a particular component requires replacement. Correct diagnosis may require further testing and reference to appropriate vehicle repair information.
