Important
Not every control module or diagnostic function is available on every vehicle.
System availability depends on the model, production year, engine, transmission, ECU specification, vehicle equipment, software version and any manufacturer security restrictions.
A vehicle being supported for general diagnostics does not mean every system or function listed for the MB V3.0 platform will necessarily be available.
Bi-Directional Active Testing
The MB V3.0 supports bi-directional control, also known as active or actuator testing, on compatible vehicles.
Rather than simply reading information from the vehicle, the scanner can send commands to supported electronic components and monitor their response.
Depending on the vehicle and control module, active tests may include:
-
ABS pump operation
-
Window regulators
-
Fuel pump
-
Wiper and washer motors
-

Transmission
-
ECU specification
-
Factory-installed equipment
-
Software version
-
Communication protocol
-
Vehicle security restrictions
Some supported vehicles provide a large number of service functions and active tests, while others provide considerably fewer.
For example, the fact that the MB V3.0 supports DPF regeneration, battery registration, injector coding or air-suspension calibration as platform features does not mean each of those functions will be available on every supported Mercedes-Benz, Sprinter, Smart or Maybach vehicle.
If a particular specialist function is essential to your intended use, check the latest iCarsoft vehicle and function coverage information before ordering.
Advanced Adaptation & Teach-In Functions
On supported vehicles and control modules, the MB V3.0 also provides access to advanced adaptation and teach-in procedures.
These may include functions such as:

DPF regeneration should only be performed when vehicle condition and operating circumstances are suitable and the operator understands the procedure.
DPF functionality is not available on every diesel vehicle.
AutoVIN Vehicle Identification
On compatible vehicles, the MB V3.0 supports AutoVIN identification.
AutoVIN can automatically identify relevant vehicle information after connection, helping speed up vehicle selection and reduce manual data-entry errors.
Availability depends on the individual vehicle and ECU communication protocol.
Where automatic identification is unavailable, manual vehicle selection may still be possible.
Failure of AutoVIN to identify a vehicle does not by itself indicate a fault with the scanner.
CAN-FD Support
The MB V3.0 supports CAN-FD, which is used on a growing number of newer Mercedes-Benz electronic systems.
It also supports conventional CAN and other compatible automotive communication protocols.
CAN-FD support means the scanner hardware and software are capable of communicating using CAN-FD where supported.
It does not guarantee unrestricted access to every control module or diagnostic function on every CAN-FD-equipped vehicle.
Standard OBD2 / EOBD Diagnostics
The MB V3.0 also supports all 10 standard OBD2 diagnostic test modes on compatible vehicles.
Functions can include:
-
Read emissions-related fault codes

-
EVAP-system testing where supported
-
Pending trouble codes
Standard OBD2 / EOBD functions mainly relate to engine and emissions systems and are separate from the MB V3.0's manufacturer-specific full-system diagnostics.
Older Mercedes & Sprinter Vehicles
Certain older Mercedes-Benz and Sprinter vehicles use diagnostic connectors other than the standard 16-pin OBD connection.
iCarsoft offers optional adapters for some of these applications, including:
-
Mercedes-Benz 38-pin diagnostic adapter
-
Early Sprinter 14-pin diagnostic adapter
These adapters are not necessarily supplied with the standard MB V3.0 package and may need to be purchased separately.
Compatibility with older vehicles should be checked before purchasing any additional adapter.
Live Data
The MB V3.0 can display supported live vehicle data in real time.
This can help diagnose intermittent faults and compare sensor readings while the engine or vehicle system is operating.
Available live-data parameters depend on the vehicle and control module.

Adaptation
-
Teach-in procedure
-
Calibration
-
Reset or relearn operation
Some vehicles provide extensive functionality, while others provide a smaller selection.
Manufacturer security systems, protected functions or special access requirements may also restrict certain diagnostic procedures.
If you require a particular specialist function, check the latest iCarsoft vehicle and function coverage information before ordering.
Do not assume that a function will work on your particular vehicle solely because it appears in the general MB V3.0 feature list.
Safe Use
The MB V3.0 is a diagnostic and service tool.
Active tests, adaptations, calibrations, teach-in functions and service procedures can command or alter vehicle systems and should only be carried out when the operator understands the procedure and its effect on the vehicle.
Before carrying out active tests or service procedures:
-
Position the vehicle safely.
-
Apply the parking brake where appropriate.
-
Keep people and equipment clear of moving components.
-
Maintain suitable vehicle battery voltage where required.
-
Follow appropriate vehicle repair and safety procedures.
-
Do not interrupt adaptations, calibrations or relearn procedures unless instructed.
A diagnostic trouble code provides information recorded by a vehicle control system. It does not automatically prove that a particular component requires replacement.
Correct fault diagnosis may require additional testing and appropriate technical repair information.
Please Note
Product specifications, software coverage and available functions may change as iCarsoft releases software updates.
Packaging, screen layouts and minor product details may vary according to production batch or manufacturer updates.
The functions available on any individual vehicle are determined by the vehicle itself, its electronic systems, installed equipment and the diagnostic coverage provided by the current iCarsoft software.
